PoLR Interaction throughout the Intertype Relations

Dealing with one’s PoLR (=”Point of Least Resistance”) – also called the Vulnerable Function – is like having to lift or even carry a heavy load of bricks. You are struggling. You hate it. You wished someone else would deal with them. Depending on who you are interacting with, or particularly who you are in a relationship with, you will be either relieved from your burden or (rather) not.

The two people who are the best equipped at handling those bricks is your Dual and to a slightly lesser extent your Mirage partner. Why? Because they are competent in the area of your greatest weakness, and will typically just take care of the issues deriving from it, without trying to “teach” you about it. In other words, your Dual or Mirage partner would simply put the bricks on their own shoulders without a word, and you’d be relieved.

Whereas someone who has your PoLR as their first function, aka your Conflictor and Supervisor, will likely at first reprimand you for carrying the bricks incorrectly; and then when they carry them for you, they will keep teaching you about how to carry them correctly, which drives you more or less nuts. Another manifestation of this interaction could be you coming across someone who is also carrying those bricks, but for them it is effortless, and they will mock or criticize you for carrying them so poorly.

In a relationship with your Activity partner or with your Beneficiary, it would be like your partner is not noticing at first you are carrying those bricks at all, so you will carry them for longer than you’d like. This is because your PoLR is their Ignoring function. However, once they do see your struggles and eventually decide to help you, it is more or less satisfying.

Your Mirror partner or Supervisee having your PoLR as their Role will be one of those people who notice the bricks faster, but not be able to help you that well with them. It is more like they will take about half of your bricks on their shoulders somewhat begrudgingly, which is better than nothing, but obviously not ideal.

With someone who is your Identical or Look-a-Like, you both see each other carrying the same heavy bricks, and can sympathize with the other’s pain. You will trod alongside each other, both trying  to carry your loads and not being able to help, but it’s nice being around someone who understands at least, and that makes the experience a bit less bad and gruesome.

Someone who has your PoLR as their HA, aka your Semi-Dual or Extinguishment partner, might be eager to carry those bricks themselves at times. Mostly they will talk with you about how valuable those bricks are, and how they they would like to carry them more often despite the struggle. This will either just perplex you or even annoy you somewhat. Like your Mirror partner or Supervisee, they won’t be able to really help you that much. Differently from them, they will occasionally request help from you with a positive attitude, which is rather strange to you.

At last, someone who has your PoLR as their Suggestive function, aka your Quasi-Identical or Benefactor, will struggle with those bricks just as much as you, and will need help just as much as you, but differently from you they see those bricks in a positive light. From their perspective, they are not carrying bricks but instead precious gold. Depending on your mood and state of mind, you will either just be confused by this, or mock or criticize them for mistaking bricks for gold.
